Today, 7th grader Beverly W. collaborated with me in working out these solutions. To see if our answers are correct, beginning July 23, 2018, click here to view the official solutions published in the MATHCOUNTS Problem of the Week Archive.
Update 7/23/2018: The correct answer for #3 is 100, with the same solution of 5 x 5 x 4 obtained by Beverly. My approach, instead, was to start with 5 x 5 x 5, then subtract the number of threedigit palindromes. Unfortunately, I made the oversight of including palindromes starting and ending with even digits, as well as those with an even digit in the middle, which were against the rules. Otherwise, my solution would have arrived at the correct answer.
